CONFORMITY’S CURSE - CAGE
The cage, first modeled in cardboard, then welded in metal, is meant to resemble the silhouette of armory while simultaneously begging the question of imprisonment, like a bird in a cage.
Through this illusionary visual metaphor, the cage represents the facade of strength masking vulnerability. At first glance, the metal form is protective and shielding. But at second glance, the viewer realizes how easily one could pierce through the equally spaced bars. The imperfect balance we all battle with in the shadows.
Strength is not to be untouchable
It is having the courage to place your heart in the hands of others and trust they will do right by it
It is putting your ego aside to rest upon the shoulders of your brothers and sisters during times of need, and knowing you would do the very same from them.
It is recognizing your strengths, but maintaining humility in that we are all imperfect, fragile, and capable of pain.
Strength is compassion, empathy, connection, respect, love. Love for other’s and love for yourself.
